Instruções para Colaboradores

1. MANA. Estudos de Antropologia Social aceita as seguintes contribuições:
1.1. Artigos inéditos (até 11.500 palavras, incluindo referências bibliográficas e notas).
1.2. Ensaios bibliográficos (até 4.400 palavras, incluindo referências bibliográficas e notas) - resenhas críticas de apenas um livro ou de vários livros tratando de assuntos correlatos.
1.3. Resenhas bibliográficas (até 1.600 palavras) - pequenas resenhas de livros recentes.

2. A pertinência para publicação será avaliada pela Comissão Editorial (no que diz respeito à adequação ao perfil e linha editorial da Revista) e por pareceristas ad hoc (no que diz respeito ao conteúdo e qualidade das contribuições). Serão aceitos, excepcionalmente, originais em espanhol, francês e inglês, cuja publicação, contudo, ficará submetida à possibilidade de tradução.

3. Devem ser enviadas três cópias do manuscrito (em espaço duplo e margens laterais de 3 cm) e o disquete com o texto digitado em um dos seguintes processadores de texto: Word for DOS (versão 5.0 em diante), Word for Windows (versão 2.0 em diante), Word for Macintosh (versão 4.0 em diante), WordPerfect for DOS (versão 5.1 em diante), WordPerfect for Windows (versão 2.0 em diante), WordPerfect for Macintosh (versão 2.0 em diante). Recomendam-se as versões Windows ou Macintosh, bem como a utilização de disquetes de 3,5 polegadas.

4. Os artigos devem estar acompanhados por um resumo contendo entre 100 e 150 palavras, em português e em inglês. Os autores devem enviar também seus dados profissionais (instituição, cargo, titulação, principais publicações), bem como endereço para correspondência (inclusive E-mail se possível). Estes dados devem aparecer ao final do trabalho. Sob o nome do autor que segue o título, deve constar apenas sua afiliação institucional.

5. As notas devem vir ao final do texto, não podendo consistir em simples referências bibliográficas. Estas devem aparecer no corpo do texto com o seguinte formato:
(sobrenome do autor /espaço/ ano de publicação: /espaço/ páginas), conforme o exemplo: (Wagley 1977: 160-162).

6. A bibliografia em ordem alfabética de sobrenome deve vir após as notas, e respeitar o formato que aparece nos seguintes exemplos (pede-se atenção à pontuação, espaços, uso do itálico e de maiúscula):

6.1. Livro:

6.2. Coletânea:

6.5. Tese Acadêmica:

7. Os gráficos, quadros e mapas devem ser encaminhados em folhas separadas, numerados e titulados corretamente, com a devida referência (se reproduzidos de outra fonte) e com indicação do local de sua inserção no texto. Devem estar confeccionados de maneira a permitir sua reprodução direta.

8. Com a publicação do artigo ou ensaio bibliográfico, o autor receberá três exemplares da Revista. No caso de resenhas, o autor receberá um exemplar.

9. Os ensaios bibliográficos e resenhas devem apresentar a referência completa das obras analisadas, sendo indicado o número de páginas de cada uma. As resenhas não devem receber título nem conter notas ou referências bibliográficas fora do texto.

10. O envio de manuscritos implica a cessão de direitos autorais e de publicação à Revista. Esta não se compromete a devolver as colaborações recebidas.

Information for Contributors

1. MANA. Studies in Social Anthropology is a forum for the presentation and discussion of new research and theoretical approaches contributing to the development of Anthropology and the understanding of social and cultural reality. The journal accepts original works by specialists from the various fields of knowledge that have interfaces with Social Anthropology in its broadest sense, seeking to place readers in contact with the field's most important contemporary issues and questions. The journal welcomes articles that result from theoretical and empirical research - both synchronic and historical - and which leave room for or encourages comparative discussion.

2. The journal accepts the following types of contributions:
a) Original articles (of up 11,500 words).
b) Bibliographical essays (of up to 4,400 words): critical reviews of single books or of various books dealing with correlated subjects.
c) Bibliographical reviews (of up to 1,600 words): short reviews of recent books.

3. One of the journal's objectives is to become an instrument for encouraging intellectual debate on relevant themes in the field. Two kinds of contributions are intended for this purpose:
a) Annotated articles. With due permission from the author, the Editors may decide that an article should be published with comments by other professionals. The author will be guaranteed the right to respond to such comments in the same issue in which his/her article is published.
b) Thematic debates. The Editors, authors, reviewers, and readers may suggest themes to be debated in the journal. The themes will be submitted to specialists to expound their opinions.

4. Articles will be reviewed by the Editorial Commission (as to whether they fit the journal's profile and editorial line) and ad hoc reviewers (in relation to their content and academic quality). Both authors and reviewers will remain anonymous throughout the reviewing process.

5. Two double-spaced copies of the article should be submitted along with a copy on diskette in one of the following word processers: Word for DOS (5.0 or higher), Word for Windows (2.0 or higher), Word for Macintosh (4.0 or higher), WordPerfect for DOS (5.1 or higher), WordPerfect for Windows (2.0 or higher), or WordPerfect for Macintosh (2.0 or higher).

6. Articles should include an abstract of up to 250 words in Portuguese and English. Authors should also include their professional identification (institution, position, titles, main publications) and address for correspondence (including E-mail address if possible).

7. Footnotes should come at the end of the text and should not be simple bibliographical references. The latter must appear in the body of the text with the following format (author's last name/space/year of publication/space/page number), as in the following (Wagley 1977: 160-162).

8. The bibliography in alphabetical order should come after the endnotes and follow the format used in the following examples (with particular attention to punctuation, spaces, use of italics, and capitalization):

a) Book:
SAHLINS, Marshall. 1985. Islands of History. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press.

b) Article from an anthology:
FERNANDES, Florestan, 1976. "Aspectos da educação na sociedade tupinambá". In: E. Schaden (org.), Leituras de Etnologia Brasileira. São Paulo: Cia. Editora Nacional. pp. 63-86.

9. Graphs, charts, and maps should be submitted on separate sheets, adequately numbered and entitled, have the due reference (when reproduced from some other source), and indicate where they are to be inserted in the text. They should be produced in such a way as to allow for direct reproduction.

10. When an article is published, the author receives 5 copies of that issue. For reviews, the author receives 2 copies of the issue.

11. Submission of articles implies ceding of the copyright to the journal, which reserves the right not to return original manuscripts.
